I have to give huge design snaps to Valencia Hotel Group’s newest property in the heart of Lubbock.
If you appreciate attention to detail, you will smile at every clever turn. Rooms here are retro, with a SMEG fridge in every room stocked with drinks and a basket filled with goodies (not free, so check the QR code for prices.
Design elements feature a shiplap wall, a sliding barn door to one of the coolest bathrooms ever (black and white tile with a swirling red sash under the mirror), and pendant lighting with old-fashioned switches. The desk is an old sewing table, and the armoire is a former cotton factory locker.
The hotel remains true to its location and its name, with everything harking back to cotton – even the ottoman is an upholstered old cotton bin. Lights are adorned with tumbleweed, and the in-room menu is a record-shaped nod to Buddy Holly, famous son of Lubbock.
Acapulco rocking chairs sit outside your door on a massive deck that overlooks the even more massive courtyard. There you will find a heated pool, grills, hammocks, cornhole, and fire pits, perfect for a party or a family get-together. There’s even a full bar on premises, along with a restaurant.
From the minute you check into this place – where they welcome you with an offer of water or a beer – you know you’re going to have fun.
